Lawson man dies in ATV crash, 13-year-old boy injured

In an incident on the evening of March 31, 2024, a fatal ATV accident occurred on Beaver Run Lane in Lawson, Missouri, resulting in the death of a local man and injuries to a teenager.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 6:00 p.m. when a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak ATV, operated by David L. Martin, 53, of Lawson, Missouri, began to skid in a field while attempting to avoid a stationary trailer. The ATV subsequently overturned, ejecting Martin and a 13-year-old male occupant, both of whom then collided with the trailer.

David L. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene, making it the 17th fatality in Troop A’s jurisdiction for the year 2024. The announcement came following the official pronouncement of Martin’s death by Dr. S. Viethaler at Excelsior Springs Hospital at 7:36 p.m. The teenage occupant suffered moderate injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Liberty Hospital for treatment.

Neither Martin nor the teenager were using safety equipment at the time of the crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, alongside Corporal N. A. Perez and the Ray County Sheriff’s Department, responded to the scene.
