The Trenton R-9 Board of Education Tuesday morning selected an architectural firm for a possible upcoming building project to include building a performing arts center and renovations to district buildings.

The board voted for Ellison-Auxier of Saint Joseph after some discussion.

Board member Cliff Roeder originally moved to choose Ellison-Auxier, but the motion died for lack of a second. Member Dorothy Taul then moved to approve ACI Boland of Kansas City, but that motion also died for lack of a second.

Roeder and Taul were both on the Request for Qualifications Selection Committee that narrowed down nine original requests to three. Roeder said the way the board had to select the firm to do work on the building project was “probably not the best”. He noted his motion was based on history and knowledge he gained from Dennis Gutshall who is working with Ellison-Auxier at the Princeton School.

After sharing his thoughts, Roeder once again moved for Ellison-Auxier and board member Marcie Cutsinger seconded the motion.

The other architectural firm in the top three was Hollis and Miller of Kansas City.
