Kara Lee Austin, age 84, a resident of Independence, Missouri, and former resident of Ludlow, Missouri, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at her residence.
Kara was born the daughter of Charles Virgil and Sophie Jane (Anderson) Austin on October 15, 1939, in Livingston County, Missouri. She was a 1957 graduate of Mooresville High School, Mooresville, Missouri. She was also a 1961 graduate of Central Missouri State University, where she earned her BS in education, and a 1967 graduate from the University of Missouri, earning her Master’s in education. Kara was a teacher with the Raytown school district, where she taught Science and Home Economics for 30 years. After retirement from the Raytown School District, she went back to work for the Kansas City School District as the elementary and middle school librarian for 20 years. She had a passion for quilting, working in her flower garden, bird watching, enjoying nature, working around her farm, and sharing her family memories. Kara was a member of the Church of Christ in Chillicothe, Missouri,
She is survived by her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Virgil and Sophie Jane Austin.
Graveside services will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Ludlow, Missouri, on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
