Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox credits the departments’ trained canine in assisting with a recent arrest of a Kansas City man.
According to the sheriff, a deputy stopped a vehicle on U-S Highway 36 that was allegedly speeding 87 miles an hour in a 65 zone. Deputy/K-9 Handler Chris Mueller subsequently assisted Deputy Dustin Woelfle on the traffic stop.
A passenger, 19-year-old Michael Barbosa, was arrested on a burglary warrant from Johnson County, Kansas. Deputy Mueller then had the dog “Zaki” check around the car and the K-9 alerted to contraband. A search resulted in the seizure of used drug paraphernalia and a citation was issued for that. A citation was also issued to the driver for speeding.
Barbosa was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail pending pickup by Johnson County, Kansas.
