Lightning causes fire in southern Mercer County
Lightning is attributed to a fire which extensively burned a large bale of hay late Saturday afternoon. The location was in a pasture along Karma Lane in southern Mercer County about 10 miles northwest of Spickard. Spickard Fire Protection District firefighters were on the scene briefly.

The Spickard City Council approved an agreement between the fire department and the city at its meeting Monday evening. Signatures were added from Mayor Jesse Richman and City Clerk Mary Exley. Names for the mowing and clean up project were presented to the council, and it approved sending out letters.

The Spickard R-2 School District Board of Education accepted a lease for a bus and a bid for windows at its meeting Monday evening. The board voted to go with L. J. Hart on a seven-year lease purchase on a bus. It also accepted a bid to replace eight front windows.
