(Missourinet) – A Missouri House bill has been filed that aims to criminalize teachers and school counselors for providing support to students undergoing a “social transition.”

Representative Jamie Gragg, a Republican from Southwest Missouri’s Ozark, sponsors the bill. It targets any form of support, whether material or otherwise, that aids in a student’s social transition. This transition is defined as adopting a name, pronouns, and gender expression—such as clothing or haircuts—that align with the student’s gender identity, rather than the gender assigned at birth.

Under this proposed legislation, Missouri educators and counselors accused of facilitating a student’s social transition could face Class E felony charges. A conviction would necessitate their registration on the state’s sex offender registry.
