Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox submitted an application seeking funds from the Deputy Sheriff Salary Supplementation Grant.

Cox describes the grant as competitive and says it is available to help supplement the low pay of deputy sheriffs in Missouri. The grant would begin July 1st and run for 12 months if approved.

Cox says it would provide the maximum potential supplement funds of $100 per month for each deputy sheriff, which would allow the sheriff’s office to pay an entry-level deputy $32,700 annually, excluding paid holidays and overtime.

Cox is the project director for the Deputy Sheriff Salary Supplementation Grant application, and Livingston County Presiding Commissioner Ed Douglas is the authorizing official.

Cox notes the sheriff’s office is short one part-time and two full-time deputy sheriffs with one full-time position vacant since June 2017.
