A crash occurred on Highway 36 at Route J, approximately three miles east of Stewartsville, on the evening of April 29, 2024. Authorities reported that a 2019 Ford Expedition rear-ended a 2013 Dodge Durango as it was slowing to make a left turn. The collision led to both vehicles being totaled and requiring towing.

The driver of the Ford, James W. Farr, 39, of Stewartsville, Missouri, and the driver of the Dodge, Rikki L. Allman, 36, from Osborn, Missouri, were both wearing seat belts at the time of the incident. Despite the use of safety devices, Allman sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital by DeKalb-Clinton EMS.

The Ford Expedition caught fire and came to rest on the south edge of the highway, west of Route J. The Dodge Durango stopped in the median south of Highway 36 and west of Route J.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and the fire was extinguished without further incident.
