The Spickard R-2 School District has announced it will extend its closure to April 30, 2020, to comply with local health and state guidelines in regards to COVID-19. A letter to the district says the school building will remain closed to the public during that time.

Superintendent Jonnie Beavers reports the Spickard School District has served breakfast and lunch to an average of 25 children each day. The program is free, and the menu is posted on the district’s Facebook page. Persons can also call the school from 9 to 10 o’clock each morning to request information. A care closet is also available with hygiene products and cleaners.

Supplemental home packets are to be sent to students, and challenges will continue to be posted on the Spickard School District Facebook page and website. The district is also to post office hours for teachers on its Facebook page and website when persons can call with questions or suggestions.

Beavers encourages students and families to follow health guidelines and stay home when able. She thanks school cooks, maintenance, office professionals, and the teaching staff for their work during the school’s closure.

Questions for the office and/or administration can be asked by phone on weekdays from 9 o’clock to 11:30 at 485-6121. Anyone needing to enter the Spickard School building for any reason should contact the school to make an appointment.
