Drought conditions have improved in the Green Hills area over the past week, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map. Released on Thursday morning, April 25, based on conditions as of Tuesday morning, April 23, the map shows significant improvements in several counties.

Putnam County no longer faces drought or abnormally dry conditions. Similarly, most of Mercer County, parts of eastern Harrison County, and northern Sullivan County are free from drought-related issues. However, most of Harrison and Daviess counties are still experiencing moderate drought, along with parts of western Grundy County, the northwest corner of Livingston County, and northwest Caldwell County. Abnormally dry conditions persist in the rest of Grundy, Daviess, Caldwell, and Livingston counties, as well as some areas of Harrison County, most of Sullivan County, and all of Linn County.

In Northeast Missouri, drought conditions have shown mixed trends, with some areas improving and others deteriorating. Some areas that were previously abnormally dry are now free from dry conditions, while some regions that had moderate drought now face severe drought. Additionally, moderate drought has spread into central Missouri near these areas.

Northwest Missouri has seen improvements from moderate to abnormally dry conditions in some locales.

Conversely, severe drought has intensified in Southeast Missouri, and moderate drought has expanded in Southwest Missouri. Southern and Western Missouri are experiencing more abnormally dry conditions, whereas some parts of Eastern Missouri, previously dry, are now clear of any drought or dry conditions.

Abnormally dry or drought conditions affect 72.3% of the state, an increase of 2.67% from the previous week.

As of Thursday morning, April 25, Trenton has received 1.84 inches less precipitation than the average for this year to date. Trenton recorded 1.69 inches of rain in the week ending Tuesday morning, April 23.
