Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox reports his office will submit an incident report to the prosecuting attorney seeking potential additional felony charges in Livingston County against a felon who led law enforcement on a multi-county pursuit last week.

The alleged chase of a pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Matthew Guilford of Brookfield started in Linn County and ended at Marshall. Methamphetamine evidence was reportedly recovered in Livingston County and allegedly tossed from the vehicle by Guilford in an attempt to destroy or tamper with physical evidence.

The Linn County prosecuting attorney recommended five felony counts against Guilford including first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer by using a Chevrolet pickup in an attempt to cause serious physical injury to a Missouri State trooper causing the officer to flee into the median to avoid being struck by the vehicle, armed criminal action by using the pickup to cause serious physical injury to a state trooper on U. S. Highway 36 Resisting arrest, detention or stop by failing to stop for law enforcement and creating a substantial physical injury or death to any person, resisting arrest, detention, or stop by knowingly interfering with law enforcement officers attempting to make an arrest by fleeing and possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine.

Guilford has been charged in Linn County with the felonies of first-degree assault or attempt—serious physical injury or special victim; armed criminal action; resisting arrest, detention, or stop by fleeing creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death to any person; resisting or interfering with an arrest for a felony, and possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid. No bond is listed on those charges.

Authorities reported Guilford was wanted on an arrest warrant from Linn County for the felonies of possession of a controlled substance and trafficking drugs. Bond on those charges was set at $50,000 cash only. He is scheduled for the Associate Division of Circuit Court on the original and additional Linn County charges on Thursday at 1 pm.

Guilford was also wanted on a federal parole warrant on an original charge of felon in possession of a firearm. No bond was issued on the parole warrant.
