Lieutenant W. Shane Sims to retire from Highway Patrol

Captain Shawn P. Skoglund, commanding officer of Troop H in St. Joseph, has announced that Lieutenant W. Shane Sims will retire on June 1, 2024, after serving more than 28 years with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Lieutenant Sims was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1996, as a member of the 71st Recruit Class. After completing his training at the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop H, Zone 2, covering Nodaway and Worth counties. In 2001, Sims was promoted to corporal and served as the assistant zone supervisor in Zone 9, Livingston County. He was promoted to sergeant in 2004 and became the zone supervisor of Zone 2 in Nodaway and Worth counties. In 2012, Sims advanced to a commercial vehicle enforcement trooper and was named the supervisor of the Troop H Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2014 and continued his service at Troop H.

Lieutenant Sims was born in Princeton, Missouri, and is a graduate of Princeton R-5 High School. In 1993, he earned an Associate of Arts degree in general studies from North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Missouri. Lieutenant Sims is married to Janara, and they have two grown children.
