16-year-old driver ejected in Nodaway County rollover

A 16-year-old from Emerson, Iowa, sustained serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 46, three miles north of Skidmore, Missouri State Highway Patrol reported. The crash occurred at approximately 6:57 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the Highway Patrol, the teenager was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Passat eastbound on Highway 46 when the vehicle traveled off the south side of the road. Attempting to regain control, the driver overcorrected, causing the Passat to return to the roadway, then veer off the north side and overturn.

The vehicle struck a concrete culvert and a Missouri Department of Transportation sign during the incident, resulting in the ejection of the driver. The car came to rest off the roadway on its wheels, facing southeast. The teenager was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Nodaway County EMS transported the injured juvenile to Mosaic Medical Center for treatment. The Volkswagen Passat was reported as totaled and was towed from the scene by Shell’s Towing.
