Trenton’s Building and Nuisance Board on Monday evening heard an update on the demolition plans for Wesley United Methodist Church.

The board held a public hearing for 113 East 9th Street, where the church building was damaged in a storm last May. Board Chairman Larry Bunnell said a contract has been signed with Perkins and Sons for the demolition, which he was told could begin on April 15 or the day after. Before then, Bunnell said, asbestos is to be removed, with that work scheduled from April 5 to possibly April 8. A smaller church building is to be constructed at the same 9th and Washington location. Bunnell noted efforts are to be made to remove stained glass windows without breaking them. There have been requests for limestone and pews.

The Building and Nuisance Board granted 30-day extensions to allow more time for work at the trailer court, 120 Highland Street, and for 601 East 9th Street. 712 Harris Avenue was moved to findings of fact. 1423 Chestnut was advanced to a certificate of a dangerous building. It was announced that a dangerous building certificate has been filed on the deed for 500 East 8th Court.

The old J.C. Penney building at Eastgate was declared a nuisance. Building Inspector Wes Barone indicated portions of the roof have caved in a second time.

Substantial progress was reported for 2315 Lulu Street and 2002 Lulu, so the board voted to remove those two locations from consideration. The Griffin family provided an update for work at 2101 Park Lane. Barone is to visit the location today. He was also asked to look at 2108 Mable Street and 724 West 10th Street.
