Grundy County Health Department to celebrate Public Health Week with multiple activities

The Grundy County Health Department in Trenton will celebrate Public Health Week with activities from April 1 through 5.

A blood pressure and blood sugar check is scheduled for April 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome, and no appointment is necessary. Fasting is not required for the blood sugar check.

Hepatitis C testing will be offered on April 2 by appointment only. The health department describes hepatitis C as a serious liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus. The screening involves a finger stick.

Tetanus-diphtheria boosters will be available on April 3 by appointment only. According to the health department, the vaccine protects against tetanus and diphtheria, two diseases that can cause muscle stiffness, breathing problems, or death. It is recommended that boosters be administered every 10 years.

The Grundy County Health Department will host an open house on April 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. Cookies and punch will be served in the new health department education annex. Visitors can access facility and health information.

A free skin cancer screening will take place on April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon by appointment only. The health department is partnering with Cleaver Dermatology for the screenings.
