Couple injured in deer-related crash west of Union Star

Early on the morning of March 30, 2024, a King City couple sustained minor injuries following a collision with a deer on Highway 169, approximately four miles west of Union Star, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Daryl W. Smith, 43, was driving a 2019 Kia Sorento southbound when a deer entered the roadway, leading to the collision. Subsequently, the vehicle veered off the left side of the road and came to a stop.

Both Daryl W. Smith and his passenger, Ann-Marie K. Smith, 36, were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. Andrew County Emergency Medical Services transported them to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Kia Sorento suffered moderate damage and was to be towed from the scene of the crash.
