An 81-year-old woman from Sheridan was injured in a car accident on Interstate 229 in St. Joseph on Saturday. The Buchanan County Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 1:12 p.m. at the 5.4-mile marker of the northbound lane.

Patricia A. Ray was driving a 2016 Buick Enclave when her vehicle suffered a tire blowout on the rear passenger side. The malfunction caused her vehicle to cross the centerline. Ray attempted to correct the vehicle’s course but overcorrected, which led the vehicle to veer off the east side of the roadway. Her car struck a concrete barrier and came to a controlled stop on the shoulder, facing north.

Ray was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.  The Buick Enclave was towed to Collision Repair of St. Joseph with moderate damage for repairs.

Despite the impact, Ray sustained only minor injuries and was transported by Buchanan County Ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph for treatment.

The St. Joseph Police Department assisted at the scene of the accident.
