3-year-old child fatally struck by vehicle in Chariton County

In an incident on Sunday afternoon, a 3-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle in Chariton County, near Marceline, Missouri. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred on private property along Route C, approximately 10 miles southwest of Marceline, at around 3:47 p.m.

The vehicle involved, a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500, was eastbound when the young pedestrian unexpectedly ran into its path. The child, whose identity is being withheld, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the site by Chariton County Coroner Nyle Bowyer at 4:18 p.m.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as 41-year-old Justin M. Henke of Salisbury, Missouri, was reportedly not using a seat belt at the time of the accident. There was no mention of Henke sustaining any injuries in the incident. 

The young victim was transported to Sommerville Funeral Home by the Linn County Coroner.

Authorities including Corporal Primm, Trooper Gipson, the Chariton County Sheriff’s Office, and Linn County EMS were at the scene to assist.
