Big rig overturns on Highway K, driver airlifted to University Hospital

In a traffic incident on Monday afternoon, a 1995 Freightliner tractor-trailer overturned on Highway K, approximately 5.5 miles north of LaBelle, Missouri. The accident occurred at around 1:40 p.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Freightliner, identified as Brandon M. Swisher, 42, of Kirksville, Missouri, sustained serious injuries in the crash. Reports confirm that Swisher was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. He was transported by air to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, for treatment.

The initial investigation revealed that the Freightliner was traveling southbound on Highway K when it veered off the right side of the road and overturned, coming to rest on its passenger side. The vehicle suffered total damage and was subsequently towed from the scene by Lakeside Towing of Memphis.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by several agencies, including the Western Lewis County Fire Department, Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, and Lewis County EMS. Conservation agents Vaughn and Snead also assisted, along with Highway Patrol Troopers Smith, Horrell, and Fish.
