Two big rigs collide near Waverly, one driver life-flighted

One truck driver was hospitalized and another escaped injury when two semis’s collided last night west of Waverly.

The highway patrol reports 49-year-old Michael Schwartz of Hettick, Illinois was flown by medical helicopter (Life Flight) to the Research Medical Center in Kansas City with serious injuries.

The truck Schwartz was driving was eastbound on Highway 24 when a westbound semi turned in front of him at the junction with Highway 23. The highway patrol noted the collision was partially head-on, demolishing both big rigs.

The second truck was driven by 22-year-old Oleksander Samodin from Hallandale Beach, Florida.
