One of several ways the Salvation Army of Chillicothe provides assistance during the Christmas season is through Angel Trees.

Social Services Case Manager Lynda Snuffer explains gifts for children of families that apply for assistance are put on angel cards and placed on trees at each entrance of the Chillicothe Walmart. She says individuals then pick up tags and purchase the items before delivering them to the Salvation Army at 621 Mohawk in Chillicothe.

The gifts are put into bags before parents pick up the items before Christmas and the parents then wrap the gifts themselves. Snuffer says organizations, churches, and individuals can also adopt a family or sponsor multiple children.  Lieutenant Shannon Forney suggests someone shopping for Angel Tree items bring a child with them to better understand what another child might be interested in.

Families can apply for Christmas assistance at the Salvation Army Office in Chillicothe weekdays through November 9th from 9 o’clock in the morning to 4 o’clock in the afternoon. They can also apply in the classrooms on the east side of the First Christian Church in Trenton weekdays October 29th through November 9th from 10 o’clock in the morning to 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

Questions should be directed to the Salvation Army of Chillicothe at 660-646-3538.
