The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education approved the new gymnasium/cafeteria rental form at a meeting Tuesday evening to reflect current rates.

Superintendent Rebecca Steinhoff says the rental rates were increased at last month’s meeting. The gym rental rate is now $200 for in-district families and $250 for out-of-district families with the cafeteria rate set at $30.

The board approved several field trip requests including a trip that third and fourth graders will travel to the Loess Hills National Wildlife Refuge November 14th as well as to Rock Bridge State Park in May. Third through eighth-grade classes will attend the Mark Twain Literature Festival in Warrensburg March 18th or 19th.

The board also approved several Missouri School Boards Association updates and declared several items as surplus.

Second-grade teacher Kim Ray and third-grade teacher Kim Foster reported that their classes are working on publishing their own book, which will be available for purchase in November.

The classes are also participating in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Friday, which will involve second, third, and fourth-grade classes rotating stations with different teachers.

Superintendent Steinhoff reported seventh and eighth-grade basketball has its first game at Jamesport Thursday, October 11th. She said athletes, families, and guests are encouraged to wear pink and purple to the game in honor of breast cancer awareness and domestic violence awareness. The school will accept donations to the Green Hills Women’s Shelter in lieu of admission.

In a closed session, the board hired Jacob Tabbert of Trenton as a part-time computer technician.
