The Newtown-Harris R-3 Board of Education adopted a four-day school week for the 2020-2021 school year at a meeting Tuesday. Superintendent Lucas McKinnis reports a calendar has not yet been adopted, and the length of school days will be increased.

The board appointed Rachael Spence as the Foster Care Liaison.

The Bereavement Leave and Maternity Disability Leave policies were approved, and Homeless Dispute Resolution procedures were adopted. There was a discussion on terms and conditions of a cooperative agreement with Grundy County R-5 for varsity and junior varsity athletics. An intruder drill is scheduled for Friday, January 17th.

School board filing dates were also discussed. Newtown-Harris will be open January 21st until 5 o’clock to accept school board filings.

McKinnis reported a meeting was to be held on Wednesday about Launch, which is a virtual educational service out of the Springfield Public Schools. He said the district is looking at options for a change in virtual education courses, and Launch is a popular choice among schools of all sizes.
