The Laredo R-7 Board of Education approved the 2020-2021 school calendar Monday evening. A school representative reports the first day of school for Laredo for the next school year will be August 25th, and the last day of school will be May 12th, 2021.
Third and fourth grades were approved to play elementary basketball. Field trips were approved for kindergarten through second grade to go to Shatto Dairy April 23rd and third through eighth grade to go to the Des Moines Science City (no date yet set).
The board reviewed the schedule for candidate filing for the school board election on April 7th. Candidates can file until the afternoon of January 21st at 4 o’clock. Terms up for reelection are Phil Fox, Jason Meeker, and Casey Bowe for three-year terms.
The Laredo School Spelling Bee will be held the afternoon of January 27th at 1:15. The Grundy County Spelling Bee will be held at Trenton Middle School on the afternoon of January 30th at 1 o’clock.
After an executive session, the board approved hiring Kelly Urton as the Parents as Teachers instructor.
