Jamesport City Council sets tax rate, addresses nuisance procedure

The Jamesport City Council set the tax rate for the city at a meeting Monday.

The tax rate was set at 89.44 cents per $100 of assessed valuation which breaks down to 72.31 cents for the general fund and 17.13 for the park fund.

Mayor Dana Urton told the council she appointed Dennis Gatewood to the Park Board July 26th. A discussion was held regarding notification of late water bills and it was suggested that no warnings of a shut off be delivered to customers, except for the notification that appears on the water bill.

Employee Trent Brewer talked about a report from the Department of Natural Resources regarding wastewater. He told the council he was working on discrepancies and would contact DNR.

Wayne Scott from the Jamesport Community Association asked the council if a car show could be held in the city park. Urton said Scott should contact a Park Board member.

Visitor Greg Register spoke on concerns regarding the current procedure for nuisance violations. He suggested a council member visit with offenders to help clarify what the city finds satisfactory. Councilmember Rob Murphy suggested Jamesport set up a policy to visit offenders in a joint effort to get properties in compliance.

Patricia Crook from the RV property said she thought her nuisance should be in compliance due to efforts made to clean up the property and secure the trailer that was not in compliance. Urton told Crook a someone from the city would contact her regarding property compliance issues.
