Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has issued guidance for Missouri baseball fans on avoiding ticket scams as the 2024 baseball season begins.

“Now that the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals have started their seasons, I want to educate Missourians on potential ticket scams,” said Attorney General Bailey. “As ticket sales increase with the start of our Missouri baseball teams’ regular season, the Attorney General’s Office aims to ensure that consumers are equipped with the right tools. We will pursue anyone attempting to exploit Missourians’ hard-earned money.”

Attorney General Bailey offers the following tips for vigilance when purchasing baseball game tickets:

  • Know Your Vendor: Ensure that you are purchasing your tickets from a reputable website before providing any personal financial information.
  • Do Your Research: If you are not familiar with a ticket seller, look up the seller on the Attorney General’s or the Better Business Bureau’s website for any complaints.
  • Use a Credit Card: It is advised to use a credit card for online ticket purchases, especially on auction sites. Buying tickets with a credit card can offer protections not available when using cash, checks, debit cards, or payment apps like Cash App or Venmo.
  • Shop on Secured Sites: Always verify the URL before buying tickets online. A website’s address should begin with “https” on the order page where personal information is entered. Secure sites will also display a padlock icon in the browser, usually near the URL in the address bar.
  • Inspect Your Tickets: To avoid being denied entry at the event, physically check your tickets. Verify the date, time, and location on the tickets match the event you plan to attend. Also, examine the seating assignments listed.
  • Remember: If an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is.

“I encourage any Missouri baseball fan who has complaints regarding a potential ticket scam to contact the Missouri Attorney General’s Consumer Complaint Hotline at 800-392-8222 or visit ago.mo.gov,” stated Attorney General Bailey. “Let’s all take steps to protect ourselves as we support our baseball teams this season.”
