Youth who have completed fifth grade may attend a Safe Sitter class at the Grundy County Health Department of Trenton to learn how to keep themselves safe and care for younger children.

The class designed for young teens who watch their younger siblings and babysit children will be held on June 5th from 9 o’clock to 3:30. Parents are asked to return for a graduation ceremony at 3:15.

Participants will learn lifesaving skills, such as choking rescue, first aid, and injury management. They will also learn business skills, such as how to manage babysitting and other jobs they may do for friends and neighbors.

The Safe Sitter class will cost $20.00 for Grundy County residents and $30.00 for non-county residents. The fee includes a student workbook, materials, and lunch. Class size is limited, and priority will be given to Grundy County registrations.

The Grundy County Health Department encourages early registration with a pre-registration form available ONLINE with paper forms available at the health department at 1716 Lincoln in Trenton. Forms must be returned by May 29th to the health department or returned by email.

Contact Health Educator Abby Oberman for more information about the Safe Sitter class at 660-359-4196.
