A traffic accident occurred on Highway 63 just south of Sublette on the evening of March 6, 2024, at approximately 7:47 p.m., involving a 2006 Dodge Dakota and an International Harvester tractor.

The Dodge Dakota, driven by Herbert R. Houf, 59, of Unionville, Missouri, collided with the rear of the northbound International Harvester tractor, operated by 20-year-old Isaiah M. Bailey from Kirksville, Missouri, as it was making a left turn. The collision caused total damage to both vehicles, which were later towed by Lakeside Towing.

Isaiah Bailey suffered minor injuries and was exempt from wearing a seat belt due to the nature of the vehicle he was operating. He was transported by Adair County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center for treatment. Herbert Houf, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, also sustained minor injuries but chose to seek treatment on his own. Additionally, a passenger in the Dodge Dakota, Cynthia R. Edwards, 67, also from Unionville, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia for medical attention. Edwards was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, assisted by the Adair County Sheriff’s Department and Adair County Fire Department, responded to the scene of the crash that resulted in both vehicles being towed and injuries to the occupants.
