The Chillicothe Fire Department responded to a possible house fire on 11th Street Sunday afternoon when a resident stated they saw smoke coming from the roof and the electrical box was popping. When Chillicothe police officers arrived at the scene, they didn’t see any smoke.

A report from fire department captain Tracy Bradley quoted a male resident as stating they were cooking on the stove and started hearing popping noises from the electrical panel in front of them. They did not notice any flames for smoke and went outside to look around and noticed smoke coming from the pipe that houses the electrical wires going to the meter.

Firefighters with a Halligan tool, water can, and thermal camera went to the electrical panel indoors and noticed that none of the breakers had been blown. They then went to the meter on the outside of the home where they noticed a light haze coming from the soffit around the meter pipe and the area was very hot. Firefighters pulled the meter and began removing the soffit where it had started to burn and advised police to contact Chillicothe Municipal Utilities.

Upon the arrival of CMU, all power to the home was disconnected and some of the shingles were removed to look for hot spots. CMU noticed that there had been some melting on the wire coming from the weather head and removed the meter cover and found where the wires had been burnt inside the pipe. The residents were advised to contact an electrician for repairs.

The report listed the owner of 93 11th street as Lurdinda Gilliland with the occupant listed as Amy Weese.
