Charges have been filed against a Cameron woman related to an incident in Cameron on Tuesday afternoon, December 12th, in which her vehicle struck a police vehicle.

Forty-five-year-old Jody Norton has been charged with the felonies of first-degree assault or attempt involving serious physical injury or a special victim, first-degree property damage involving law enforcement, driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender, and possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $150,000.

A probable cause statement accuses Norton of driving a sport utility vehicle that hit Cameron Police Sergeant Dustin McCloud’s fully marked patrol vehicle multiple times. This incident occurred before Norton’s vehicle reportedly became disabled, ran off the right side of the road, and struck a concrete barrier designed to protect the exterior of the Cameron Public Safety building.

Norton admitted she had been racing and acknowledged hitting the patrol vehicle. While at a hospital for medical treatment, she was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine. She was also believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Cameron Police Chief Rick Bashor reported on December 12th that the officer was also taken to a hospital for examination.

Norton has three prior convictions for driving while intoxicated in the state of Wyoming.
