The Highway Patrol reports two men sustained serious injuries in a one-car accident one mile west of Elmer on Monday evening.

An air ambulance transported driver 43-year-old Brandon True of Kirksville to the University Hospital of Columbia, and an ambulance transported passenger 22-year-old Augustus Allen of Atlanta, Missouri to the University Hospital.

The car traveled west on Route J before reportedly failing to negotiate a curve, overturning, striking a county road, becoming airborne, and hitting a utility pole, which totaled the vehicle.

True was ejected from the car, and Allen was partially ejected. The Patrol notes neither wore a seat belt.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Department, First Responders, and Ambulance assisted as well as the Atlanta Volunteer Fire Department and Air Evac Helicopter.
