A fire burned about 1,100 acres of Pershing State Park near Laclede Tuesday.

Park Superintendent Tom Woodward reports containment work for the wildfire began around 6:30 Tuesday morning and ended around 10 o’clock Tuesday night.

Woodward notes the fire started in the southwest part of the park, and it is unknown how the fire started. An investigation into how the fire started will continue as well as an investigation to find out exactly how much of Pershing State Park burned.

Woodward reports three Department of Natural Resources facilities, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and volunteer fire departments from Meadville and Laclede responded and worked at the scene. There were no injuries caused by the fire.

The Brookfield Police Department reported Tuesday afternoon that drivers on U. S. Highway 36 near the park may have experienced reduced visibility.
