The Wheeling Fire Department extinguished a fire Wednesday afternoon that burned part of a residence on South State Street in Wheeling.
Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox reports he discovered a fire in a ditch had gotten out of control and caught trash on fire next to a single-wide trailer. The burning trash spread to the front deck and east side of the home when a citizen came with his tractor and front loader. Cox says if that person had not helped, the structure might have been a total loss.
It was determined no one was home at the time of the fire, but there were multiple pets inside. The occupant was notified, and assistance was provided in attempting to locate some of the pets.
