An Illinois girl was hurt Saturday evening when the pickup truck she was a passenger in overturned on ice-covered Interstate 35 near Eagleville.
The 16-year-old from Round Lake, Illinois was taken to Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany with moderate injuries. The girl’s father, 43-year-old Bernardo Gomez of Round Lake, was the driver of the pickup. He was not reported hurt.
The accident happened one mile south of Eagleville on I-35 when the northbound pickup went out of control on the ice-covered pavement, ran off the left side of the road, overturned, and came to rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle, blocking the southbound passing lane of I-35.
The vehicle was demolished and both occupants were wearing seat belts.
The highway patrol no longer provides the names of juveniles 16 and younger involved in accidents.
