A ceremony is scheduled for early next month in Sullivan County to initiate the deployment of fiber optics in rural Milan. NEMR, a telephone company based in Green City, received federal funding through the ARPA Broadband Infrastructure Grant.

The event will take place on May 3 at 10 a.m. at a location on Highway 5, southeast of Milan. The specific address is approximately 53-235 Route C.

NEMR has indicated that attendees will include Third District State Representative Danny Busick and the Sullivan County Commissioners.

The Department of Economic Development announced early last year that NEMR was awarded two broadband grants. The telephone company was among 60 recipients of grant funds to establish fiber connections in areas lacking adequate Internet access.
