Two local delegates participated in the 54th Annual Missouri Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D. C. June 9th through 15th.

Mady Williams of Laredo and Dereck Bowman of Bethany joined other high school students on the seven-day tour, which gave them a firsthand look at what is it like to be involved in politics, leadership positions, community service, and today’s issues.

Participants visited with representatives from their congressional districts.

They toured monuments, the Smithsonian’s museums, and the Arlington National Cemetery.

The group also took a sightseeing and dance cruise on the Potomac River with delegates from other states.

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Electric Youth Day brought together more than 16 hundred youth tour delegates from across the country to hear from government leaders and motivational speeches.

One speaker was four-time Paralympic medalist and two-time world wheelchair basketball champion Mike Schlappi.

Grundy Electric Cooperative of Trenton sponsored the local delegates.
