The Trenton Park Board approved a bid for tubing, a budget amendment, reimbursing North Central Missouri College, and a tree plan at its meeting Wednesday evening.

The board accepted a bid from Metal Culverts, Incorporated for $85.25 per linear foot of ditch tubing and $170.50 per band to be used to replace the tubing on Bolser Street. It was the only bid and approximately 190 feet of tubing, bands, and concrete will be replaced.

The board also approved a budget amendment for moving up to $20,000 from the Ebbe account to the Moberly Park account for the project. The money will be paid back over two years.

Park Superintendent Jason Shuler reported the new tubing should last a long time if it is done correctly. He said replacing the tubing would also make maintenance in the area easier.

Board President Duane Helmandollar said if the pipes were not replaced, the city might have lost the basketball courts there.

The board approved reimbursing North Central Missouri College for no more than $2,500 for upgrades to Burleigh Grimes Field. Shuler said he received a quote on infield materials for the field of $3,550. He added the board would only pay a portion of that amount, about $2,140. The rest will be paid for by NCMC and the Trenton R-9 School District.

The board accepted the Eastside Park tree plan as presented by member Gary Schuett. Schuett said some trees would be planted, and some would be removed.

Superintendent Shuler reported metal trim on the two open shelter houses at Eastside Park is completed. He said Boy Scout Ben Woodson is almost finished installing the metal on the Upper Moberly Park shelter house. Woodson is completing the project to earn his Eagle Scout status. The park department installed the base, window, door, and top trim.

Shuler reported Johnson, Griffin, and Burleigh Grimes fields were aerated and grub control was applied to them. He said Custom Tree Care completed grinding tree stumps at Moberly, Eastside, and Sesquicentennial parks, and the park department completed cleaning up the wood chips.

A water fountain for Moberly Park was received and will be placed outside the existing bathrooms at the pool filter building this month. Shuler said he also ordered the new swing set for the Moberly Park playground and plans to install it this fall.

He mentioned the Trenton Family Aquatic Center closed August 13 with repairs and maintenance to be done this month to winterize the facility.

Shuler noted the Rock Barn’s wooden gazebos have also been repaired, power washed, stained, and sealed.

He said Gary Schuett was interested in purchasing a sign for donors to the disc golf course. Shuler added he would look into how much a sign would cost.
