Scams involving veterans have been reported and veterans should be cautious about giving out information.

Veterans Service Officer Wayne Kleinschmidt says one scam involves persons posing as Veterans Choice, or veterans accidentally call the wrong number.

He advises veterans to only call the number printed on the back of their Veterans Choice card and says a number only a few digits off will steal individuals identities and sell them to the highest bidder, take a lot of money, and damage reputations. The correct phone number for Veterans Choice is 1-866-606-8198.

Another scam involves persons posing as VA employees calling veterans. Kleinschmidt says the scammers will get a hold of social security numbers and other personal information.

He adds that if VA employees call veterans, they will already have access to the information they need.
