Milan man dies in bridge crash on Route OO

A crash north of Milan claimed the life of a local man after his vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a bridge. The accident occurred on Route OO, approximately four miles north of Milan, on April 5, 2024, at around 2:15 p.m.

Scott A. Somers, 53, of Milan, was driving a 2016 Kia Sorento northbound when the accident unfolded. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Somers’ vehicle traveled off the right side of the road before striking the bridge. The impact caused total damage to the vehicle, which was towed by Littrell’s Towing.

Somers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Sullivan County Coroner Bob Wyant at 2:37 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with assistance from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, Milan First Responders, and Sullivan County Ambulance, responded to the scene.
