A Kirksville woman died from injuries sustained when a sports utility vehicle and a tractor-trailer struck head-on at the intersection of Highway 63 and Highway 6 Monday afternoon.

The Kirksville Police Department reports an ambulance transported the driver of the SUV, 28-year-old Monica Steele, with serious injuries to the Northeast Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 49-year-old John Blenz of Kingman, Kansas, was reported as not injured.

Kirksville Police officers determined the tractor-trailer traveled south on Highway 63 and attempted to turn left onto Highway 6 East before traveling into the path of the SUV traveling north on 63.

The Kirksville Fire Department, Adair County Ambulance District, Adair County Sheriff’s Department, and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted the Kirksville Police Department.
