Defendant flees courtroom during appearance at Grundy County courthouse

Preliminary hearings were waived yesterday in the Associate Division of the Grundy County Circuit Court.

These involved cases against 23-year-old Nicholas Martin; 35-year-old Emily Hendee; 42-year-old Christopher Hershberger, and 42-year-old Erick Wattenbarger – all of Trenton. Each was bound over to appear in the March 16th session for Division One of the Grundy County Circuit Court.

Nicholas Martin faces two counts of second-degree burglary.

Emily Hendee is charged with issuing bad checks and nonsupport of minors.

Christopher Hershberger faces charges of possession of methamphetamines.

Erick Wattenbarger is charged with operating a vehicle without a driver’s license.

Two misdemeanor traffic tickets were certified to Division One of the circuit court.

Among other cases, 34-year-old Dale Georges of Agency pleaded guilty to amended charges of misdemeanor stealing, tampering with the property of another, tampering of a motor vehicle, and trespassing. A plea agreement was involved.

The court followed the agreement and sentenced Georges to 30 days confinement at the Grundy County Jail on each count. Jail time runs concurrently. He was given credit for serving 28 days and remanded for the other two. Georges also was ordered to donate $200 to the law enforcement fund, make restitution of $142 and pay costs.

20-year-old Brandon Kleihauer of Trenton pleaded guilty to property damage in the 2nd degree (misdemeanor) Per a plea agreement, the court suspended imposition of a sentence and placed Kleihauer on probation for one year.

Among conditions is payment of $777 restitution plus court costs. He also was ordered to spend 12 days incarcerated with credit given for serving the time.

Trenton resident, 43-year-old Patrick Shaun Michael, was appearing in associate circuit court on a charge of alleged violation of a protection order for an adult.

During arraignment yesterday, the prosecuting attorney informed the court she may seek jail time in this matter. The court attempted to provide the defendant with an application to have a public defender represent him.

An online court report says he fled the courtroom. A warrant was then issued for the arrest of Patrick Shaun Michael with bond set at $5,000 cash only.
