High school students from the Linn County and Newtown-Harris school districts participated in Congressman Sam Graves’s annual Future Leaders Academy at Hannibal-Lagrange University Tuesday.
Missouri State Treasurer Eric Schmitt was the keynote speaker. Other speakers included representatives from the Drug Enforcement Agency, Missouri Corn Growers Association, and Missouri Secretary of State’s Office. Topics discussed included opioids as well as agriculture and election security.
High schools nominated the students who attended based on academic performance, civic engagement, and demonstration of leadership ability. Graves says he believes the Future Leaders Academy is a great opportunity for students to learn more about leadership and discuss current important issues.
