Area FFA Chapters compete at district judging competition in Maryville

Many FFA Chapters have had teams qualify for state judging following their high placements during the Northwest Missouri district career development events held in Maryville Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Trenton FFA has two district champion teams on Wednesday: one in ag sales and the other in meats. Highly ranked individuals from THS in ag sales were Katarina Black 2nd place; Jaylen Neff 5th; and Karli Crawford 10th. Other students from the immediate area doing well in ag sales included Matana Munday of Grundy R-5 who

was 6th; Sami Boyd and Matti Ishmael both of Gallatin were 7th and 9th.

The Trenton meats judging team was led by a first place individual: Cole Schilling . Others from THS included Emily Kasinger 3rd, Hannah Persell 6th, and Jayden Roeder was 9th. Others from the immediate area included Princeton students Logan Dunkin 2nd, Blaine Milburn 5th, and Jaelyn Thomas 7th. Mady Williams of Grundy R-5 was 4th.

After Trenton, the meats team results included Princeton 2nd, North Harrison 3rd, and the Grundy R-5 FFA was ranked 7th.

In dairy cattle judging, North Harrison and Princeton finished first and second. North Harrison’s team was led by Mardee Sadowsky and Lane Huitt who were ranked 1st and 2nd. Princeton student Kylie Willett was the 3rd high individual.

In ag mechanics, Hamilton took first and Trenton was 6th.

In forestry, Hamilton was first, Gallatin 5th, and Trenton 6th.

Hamilton had the top three individuals in forestry judging: Dakota Leader, Sarah Hartley, and Nick Wycoff. Hamilton’s Jacob Grant was the top-ranked individual and Jeremy Dobbins was 4th in the ag mechanics category.

Hamilton also had Northwest District champion teams in the areas of nursery landscape, poultry, and in farm management.

Princeton has a district champion team in judging of horses. Princeton students Alison Batson, Vivian Allen, and Andrew Smith were the top three individual judges.

North Harrison has a district champion team for livestock judging. Princeton has a team that finished second. North Mercer was 6th. Students who ranked in the top ten of livestock judging are Mardee Sadowsky, Payton Craig and Brandy Rivet from North Harrison plus Princeton students Logan Krohn, Kylie Willet, and Payton Goodin.

Braymer was 1st in agronomy. Gilman City was 3rd and Cainsville FFA was 5th.

Other categories at the northwest district contests involved entomology, floriculture, farm management, and dairy foods.

The state competition in career development events will be held during the annual FFA Convention later this month in Columbia.
