Stephan Nylin obit photoStephan “Scooby” Eugene Nylin, age 53, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, in his home.

Stephan was the son of Gerald and Lorena Avery, born on August 23, 1971. He was a member of the senior class of 1989 at Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Missouri. Stephan married his high school sweetheart, Maria Bush, on September 2, 1989, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives him.

For over 20 years, Stephan worked at Chillicothe Diesel, Chillicothe, Missouri, becoming well-known among diesel mechanics and farmers from Chillicothe to Kansas City. Renowned for his willingness to assist with vehicle issues, Stephan was a dedicated fan of the Chiefs, celebrating their victories passionately and mourning their losses just as deeply. He cherished the moment the Chiefs won their first Super Bowl, a memory shared with his father. An avid hunter and fisherman, Stephan’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren grow, and caring for his two German Shepherds, Uno and Maze.

Stephan is survived by his wife, Maria, of the home; three daughters, Meagan Stanhope and her husband, James, of Hale, Missouri; Brittany Henson and her husband, Leslie, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Haylee Nylin and Derek Fee of Kidder, Missouri; one son, Wade Nylin and his wife, Adenia, of Chillicothe, Missouri; two granddaughters, Payton and Paige; eight grandsons, James, Kameron, Rowdy, Leslie, Hunter, Wendall, Willy, and one on the way; two brothers, James McKinney and his wife, Teena, of Biggsville, Illinois; Rex McKinney of Oquawka, Illinois; and one sister, Sharon Dobesh and her husband, Mullan, of Bayville, New Jersey, along with some aunts and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stephan was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, and other dearly missed family members.

A visitation is scheduled at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephan (Scooby) Nylin Memorial Dog Park and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
