The Newtown-Harris R-3 Board of Education set the district’s tax rate on Monday at 649.8 cents. ($6.498)
Dan Neil was hired as a new science teacher and the board also approved the Annual Secretary of the Board Report, handbooks and computer usage policies for students and faculty, and the Parents as Teachers Program.
Superintendent Lucas McKinnis reported the audit went well. Construction crews took out sidewalks to the elementary school doors to be ADA compliant which are nearly finished. A summer crew is finishing work in the district before teachers and students return.
Teachers will return on Monday, August 19th, and students will start classes next Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
McKinnis said Newtown-Harris will be required to start later next year due to changes in state law.
