The Jamesport City Council approved the purchase of a storm siren at its meeting Monday evening.

The cost for the siren, pole, and installation will be $12,500. The siren will be able to be remotely operated from Daviess County dispatch. The vote on the siren came after David Roll with the Daviess County Emergency Management Agency spoke on the availability to purchase one.

The council approved two ordinances. City Clerk Shelley Page says one regarded setting the assistant city clerk’s salary at $7.50 per hour and utility personnel Trent Brewer’s salary at $14 per hour. The other ordinance restricted parking in city parks stating no motor vehicles should be parked in a city park from 10 o’clock at night to 6 o’clock in the morning without the consent of the mayor.

The council also approved purchasing four new parking signs allowing the city authorization to have vehicles removed in restricted parking areas. Amanda Riley with the Jamesport Community Association discussed plans for the annual car show scheduled for June 22nd. She also asked the city to purchase fireworks for the annual show to be held July 5th.

Wayne Scott from JCA noted several activities are planned the evening of the fireworks show, including an ice cream social, concessions, vendors, a softball game, and bounce games for children. The council voted to purchase $500 worth of fireworks to add to the show.
