The Chillicothe Police Department wants feedback as it plans to implement new community partnership programs.

Police Chief Jon Maples says one of several programs the Chillicothe Police want to start is Coffee with a Cop. He notes the program will open the door for interactions outside of crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement and community members together. It will allow residents of Chillicothe and the surrounding areas to get to know the police officers better.

Maples says the police department wants to bring back youth safety talks. He explains the police partner with prior drug offenders in recovery to show the youth in the community the police are there to help and prevent wrongful actions in the future.

The Chillicothe Police also want to start their first Citizens Police Academy in order to familiarize citizens with the day-to-day operations of the police department and show them why the police do what they do.

Maples adds that officers have also been working on a church security program. He says the police would like to meet with local churches about security and how to prevent critical incidents within the churches.

Maples encourages members of the community to call the Chillicothe Police Department at 660-646-2121. Individuals may also comment on the police department’s Facebook page or send a tweet on Twitter.
