A midnight single vehicle accident in northern Chariton County injured a resident of Macon.
The highway patrol said 32-year-old Jay Patel received moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Pershing Hospital in Brookfield then transferred by medical helicopter to the University Hospital in Columbia.
The patrol reports Patel was northbound when his car, a 2017 Toyota, traveled off Highway 5, struck a tree and overturned. The vehicle was demolished in the accident two miles south of Marceline.
The driver was using a seat belt.
Assisting the highway patrol were the Marceline police and fire departments.
