Thunderstorm alert for north Missouri through Tuesday evening

Residents across central and north Missouri are advised to prepare as the National Weather Service forecasts a series of thunderstorms beginning late Monday and extending into Tuesday. These weather events have the potential to escalate in severity, with damaging winds and hail identified as primary concerns.

Monday’s Weather Outlook: The onset of the weather disturbance is expected late in the evening, particularly after sunset, with storms developing along a boundary stretching from northwest Missouri through Columbia. Initially, the main hazards will likely include damaging winds and small hail.

The weather forecast for overnight Monday calls for showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5 am. Mostly cloudy skies, with a low of around 65. East-southeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60% with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday’s Forecast Details: The weather is set to intensify on Tuesday, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms. Early Tuesday morning, thunderstorms are projected to move across Kansas towards Missouri, increasing in strength as they travel eastward throughout the day.

By Tuesday afternoon, further storm development is anticipated, especially over north-central Missouri. The severity of these conditions is expected to depend significantly on the atmospheric activity from Tuesday morning’s weather patterns. Possible hazards for Tuesday include very large hail, potentially exceeding 2 inches in diameter, and damaging winds with speeds up to 65 mph. Additionally, there is a risk of locally heavy rainfall and isolated tornadoes, particularly east of Highway 65.

Residents of north Missouri on Tuesday can expect showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3 pm. The daytime high is predicted to be near 76 degrees. It will be windy, with a southeast wind of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90% with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday night calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 am. Skies will be mostly clear during the early evening, then become mostly cloudy, with a low of around 55 degrees. It will be breezy, with a south-southwest wind of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. The chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are expected, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
