The Missouri Supreme Court has denied a request to delay the execution of Brian Dorsey, setting the stage for the execution to proceed as scheduled on Tuesday, April 9. Dorsey, 51, was convicted in 2008 for the murder of his cousin, Sarah Bonnie, and her husband, Ben Bonnie. He received a death sentence for the crimes.

The court issued a decision on Friday stating that Dorsey’s appeal for a stay of execution did not meet the necessary criteria. Dorsey’s legal team had filed a motion seeking to postpone his execution until a related case in the Cole County circuit court is resolved. This case involves the appointment of the new Director of the Missouri Department of Corrections, a role left vacant by Anne Precythe at the end of 2023.
